Kathryn Kates Seinfeld actress, dead at 73

 

Actress Kathryn Kates, who appeared in the hit TV series Orange is the New Black and Seinfeld, has died at the age of 73, her correspondent confirmed to CNN on Wednesday.

"After a long, hard battle with lung cancer, Kathryn passed away peacefully last Saturday surrounded by her brother Josh, his wife Sue Ann and his sister Mallory. We can confirm that Kathryn was 73 years old," the headline agency said. In a statement to CNN.

"Kathryn has been our client for many years and we have become closer since we returned to lung cancer treatment about 20 years ago, so almost a year ago."

“She was incredibly brave, thoughtful, wise and loving. Kathryn has conveyed the most passionate part of her day-to-day life with every role she has played. We will do our best to honor her incredible legacy. The world has really lost one. Good."

The company posted a tribute to Cates Monday from its verified Instagram account: "Our mighty @officialkathrynkates is dead. He will always be remembered and cherished in our hearts as a mighty force of nature. He loved the craft and it was enough. To ship 10 ships. Be patient. A true icon. We will miss you."

According to a biography on her own website, Kates moved to Los Angeles from her native New York in 1974 for her acting career. There he was an influential figure on the local theater scene and became one of the founders of the Colon Theater in Barbank, California.

With a TV career spanning more than three decades, Kates has starred in several epoch-making shows.

She had a recurring role on the '90s sitcom Seinfeld, starring Jerry Seinfeld and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

He has also starred in the Gritty Netflix series Orange is the New Black and legal drama The Good Fight, as well as starring in The Sopranos original film The Many Saints of New York.
