After moving from the desk to the chair after meal Holiday evening, I got to considering all the elements I’m fortunate for in my lifestyle. This is what got to mind:

- That I approved on Colts period seats this period.

- That my mother and father decided not to name me Ndamukong.

- My Andrew Dalton bobblehead.

- My Costs Belichick Tale Publication. You will have fun ’till you cry.

- That we’re in A week 12 and still no hint of T.O.

- That Fireman Ed is not my in the friend.

- Sam Adams Winter period Beer I: for getting me through the Cardinals-Rams menagerie.

- Aaron Rodgers, to develop us all ignore about Brett Favre, his photographic camera cellphone and “The Little Viking.”

- For my pups Erina Vick Eat Toy. Winston likes chomping him some Vick.

- That I never stay in Detroit (10th period in a row!).

- That we be familiar with a look from Ocho Stinko. (And this is wanting it remains.)

- The Bengals. If I have to describe, then you must be new here.

- For Ray Grain, Jim Leonhard and Darren Sproles. Showing excellent achievements do come in little offers.

- That I never took (and never will take) Irish moving sessions with Ndamukong Suh.

Dutch passengers on the country’s national railroad are none too happy with the current arrangement on the trains. There are no bathrooms and if you need to, you know, go, you have to go to the conductor’s booth and ask for waste bags. Problem? You bet. Bigger than Houston’s quarterback situation? Depends.

So Matt Leinart makes his first start in two years and lasts about a quarter and a half before Jags defensive end Jerome Mincey says thanks for playing and here is a lovely parting gift for you right before he slams Leinart to the ground and injures his throwing shoulder. Before long you have starting QB Matt Schaub and his season-ending foot injury on the sidelines in a boot standing next to second-stringer Leinart with his arm in a sling. Houston hasn’t had a problem this dire since Tom Hanks was having trouble getting his rocket home in “Apollo 13.” (It should be pointed out to the Dutch that Tom and his crew had to use waste bags, too, so quit your whining.). Anyway, the Texans and their hopes of a first-ever trip to the postseason now ride on the arm of third-stringer T.J. Yates or Jets castoff Kellen Clemens.

T.J. Yates or Kellen Clemens? Upon further review maybe this is worse than the whole Dutch bag fiasco.

Five Iron Frenzy

Five Iron Frenzy
Many in the past I was looking through my Papa's old audio selection, looking for something new to pay attention to, and came across a few CDs by a group known as Five Metal Madness. Now, I have to be genuine here and acknowledge that the only reason I determined to pay attention to the audio was because the project art was wonderful. (It was a moving software, why examine you pay attention to the album!?)

From when I observed the first tune I was entranced. The monitor ‘My Wicked Plan to Spend less the World’, is on the top of my most performed collection on iTunes. I believed the relax of the CD and could not quit looking for more and more. Since then I have believed every individual Five Metal Madness tune and craved their substance, only to find that the group split up in 2003. I was gutted to say the least. I have rarely gone more than a several several weeks without enjoying them for a while and their audio make me as pleased as they did when I first found them.

Not too long ago some exciting reports started to appear on the companies tweets internet site. The internet site guaranteed an exciting statement to be made on Nov 22, exactly eight years after the companies remaining display. The common agreement on the internet was that the group was getting back together, and real to kind, Five Metal Madness do not let down.

On Wednesday, after eight years apart, the group declared a new project and introduced a new tune for the first time eight years. Of course, nothing is ideal and the simple reality is, Five Metal Madness do not has a brand. Therefore that the group would have to advance the whole project themselves, something that is obviously absolutely unfeasible. So they arrived at out the lovers.

They designed a internet site on kickstart.com, with the objective of getting $30 000 money for the of their new project, due to be introduced in 2013. Reese Roper, the cause artist of the group, placed on the internet site that he imagined that it would take about six several weeks for the group to hit their $30 000 focus on.

They hit $30 000 in 55 mins, and the contributions kept returning. As I’m composing, less than two times after the internet site went stay, the contributions are on the edge of $100 000 with 58 times to go. To put this in situation, the best ever gift complete for a group on kickstart.com is just over $135 000.
The group have said that they are really pleased and humbled by the wedding celebration that they have got and Leanor “Jeff the Gurl” Ortega, one of the companies major people, has guaranteed to start the band’s PO Box again.

And the tune that they introduced with their announcement? Despite the truth that it was available for obtain free (before their web server dead from the traffic), it is already their most obtained monitor on iTunes.

Spoon filling into pie crust and bake at 325F for approximately 30 minutes. Check to make sure the edges of the crust become puffy and golden, the filling becomes deeply browned and the center firms. Transfer to wire rack to cool.

Anne McCaffrey Passed Away After Suffering a Stroke

Posted by Zotta Rendevouz

Anne McCaffrey, creator of the “Dragonriders of Pern” sequence, has approved away. She was 85 years old.

Her publisher Random House reportedly announced that the author passed away after suffering a stroke.

McCaffrey’s guides about a do not have planet in which some people rode telepathic mythical beasts to battle lethal decreasing unfamiliar Clothes are considered seminal works of dream stories. The guides mixed mythic ideas, sci-fi and experience.

McCaffrey was born in Cambridge, Mass., and published “Dragonflight,” the first volume in her “Dragonriders of Pern” series, in 1968. “When is a legend a legend? Why is a myth a myth? How old and disused must a fact be for it to be relegated to the category ‘Fairy-tale’?” she wrote in the introduction to “Dragonflight.” McCaffrey’s 1978 book “The White Dragon” was a breakthrough in the series, and made the New York Times bestseller lists.

While much of fantasy fiction focused on male protagonists, McCaffrey’s works featured both men and women as risk-taking heroes and heroines. Her blend of the sci-fi and fantasy genres was also unique and groundbreaking. McCaffrey was the first woman to win a Hugo Award and the first female to win a Nebula Award; she won both sci-fi/fantasy writing prizes in the late 1960s.

Her books reimagined the ancient mythology of dragons, transforming them from enemies of men into friends, creating a psychological and emotional bond between humans and the fire-breathing creatures, and successfully tapping into a deep-seated fantasy most readers didn’t even know they had–the desire to ride on the back of a dragon and fly across the sky.

In one of her last notes to fans on Oct. 27, 2010, she expressed her hope that she would be able to attend a convention celebrating her works, writing “health permitting, I’ll be at Dragon*con 2011. I apologize that I won’t be able to do nearly as many appearances as I’d like (oh, to be even 20 years younger!) but I can’t think of a convention I’d rather attend in my 85th year!”

On Aug. 18 2011, her son Todd posted a note reading “Mum wants me to relay to you how terribly sorry she is to have to cancel this year’s appearance at Dragon*con. What seemed to be indigestion last week has now turned out to be something more serious – some incident with her heart, the full details of which are still to be determined by tests. Mum very specifically asked me to apologize to those who had hoped to see her there, saying: ‘Sorry that old age came up and bit me on the a**.’”

Kyle Orton The Best Procedure

Kyle Orton The Best Procedure
We arrive at a common agreement Wednesday in the time after the Colorado Broncos waived qb Kyle Orton: It adds up for the Chicago, illinois Has to add him to their list. The best procedure for doing so, however, is less apparent.

The Has have the third-lowest goal this A week in the NFL's waiver system, your purchase according to report with jewelry damaged backwards purchase of energy of program. The two squads behind them, the San Francisco 49ers and Natural Bay Packers, seem unlikely to place a maintain.

So if Orton isn't believed by a workforce with increased goal than the Has, he would be a powerful selection to apparent waivers entirely and become a no cost representative. The Colorado Article has revealed Orton wants to come back to Chicago, illinois, making it likely he would take a one-year plan at the minimal NFL income for a person of his level of practical knowledge to complete off out the season with the Has.

That circumstances advises the Has probably don't need to maintain Orton, as NFL professional Ross Tucker famous via Tweets. It won't effect the end effect, and ready out the waiver procedure would spend less the Has about $2.4 thousand in cash and salary-cap room by relaxing restricted. That's the change between the pro-rated part of his $7.3 thousand platform income, which the Broncos would pay if he opens waivers, and what the Has would owe him in pro-rated minimal income.

One debate for putting a maintain regardless is that it could develop the Bears' status in the challenging method for giving compensatory set up selections for dead no cost providers, if Orton symptoms elsewhere in the offseason. I'm not sure if the Has will consider that chance truly really worth excess $2.4 thousand. We'll know for sure by the 4 p.m. ET end of business Friday.

Thanksgiving Turkey Day

Thanksgiving Turkey Day
By long-standing custom, the center of Christmas meal has been obtained rock-hard, freezing and inexpensive.

That's beginning to modify. Turkeys are going Godiva.

The same love for having that introduced us fabulous foods vehicles and swelled reviews for TV preparing reveals has increased need for top-drawer turkeys with pretty brands and even better looking cost — up to $150 for a favorite Whiskey Red history selection.

"People want a chicken that has a name, a provenance, a reputation — a chicken you can talk about," said Kathy Gori, a 60-year-old film writer who breaks her time between Sonoma and Father christmas Monica.

Lindsay Calev of Redondo Beach usually steers away from pricier items at the store, but was willing to pay extra for a Diestel brand organic turkey at Whole Foods.

"I don't eat organic every day of the year — wish I could afford to," said Calev, 28, who helps create graphics for advertising. "But Thanksgiving is a time where we're really valuing the food we're making. I was willing to spend a few extra dollars for that."

If you haven't bought a premium bird by now, it's probably too late. Many purveyors say they are sold out.

"My phone is ringing nonstop," said Mary Pitman, whose family raises heritage turkeys, the priciest of the elite varieties, on a farm near Fresno. "Everyone's on a mad hunt for heritage turkeys and there's almost not enough left for my own family. It's the most sought-out bird in the U.S."

Despite the growing appetite for premium varieties, most of the 46 million turkeys that the National Turkey Federation says Americans will gobble down this Thanksgiving will be acquired for as little as 50 cents a pound at local supermarkets.

The trade group doesn't break down sales of the fancy fowl, but retailers, farmers and customers all say that demand is soaring.

Heritage Foods USA, which sells turkeys online and ships via FedEx, said it sold out of all 6,000 of its heritage birds, despite a $150 price tag for a 22-pounder. Sales of the bird are up 82% since last year, the company said.

Whole Foods, which operates about 300 upscale markets nationwide, said sales of organic turkeys have tripled in the last three years and now account for about 40% of the chain's turkey sales.

"Customers are much more into food now than they were a few years ago because of food magazines and TV shows," said Theo Weening, global meat coordinator for Whole Foods. "People want to know where the bird comes from, what breed it is, how it's been raised."

Standard frozen turkeys, which are sometimes kept in cold storage for six months or more, generally cost less than $2 a pound. Some supermarkets have even given them away as part of a buying incentive for customers.

Beyond that, there are four major upscale varieties.

Free-range fowl, which have access to the outdoors, start at about $3 a pound. Next up the ladder are organic gobblers, which usually sell for at least $4 a pound and are certified by the USDA for their chemical-free feed and processing.

Heirloom turkeys are the next rung up, and are a type that date back more than a century to the earliest domesticated breeds.

Heritage turkeys cost the most, at about $6 to $12 a pound. They are comparable to the wild breeds used for the original Thanksgivings and are allowed to live months longer than most turkeys, helping them develop more flavor and dark meat as a result of heavy outdoor running and flying.

According to the Heritage Turkey Foundation, there are a limited pool of breeds — including Bourbon Red, Jersey Buff and Black Spanish — that are considered to be heritage birds.

Az has used former Western Va and The state of michigan instructor Rich Rodriguez as its next sports instructor, as running home Greg Byrne made the announcement recognized with an image placed on Tweets.

The article integrated a weblink that, when visited, led to an image of Rodriguez with his household.

Byrne will formally create Rodriguez at a announcement discussion Wednesday at the McKale Middle, the university said. He changes beginning instructor Tim Kish.

Arizona (3-8, 2-7 Pac-12) shot Robert Stoops last 30 days after fighting to a 1-5 start.

Rich Rodriguez trained The state of michigan from 2008-2010 and Western Va from 2001-2007. Rodriguez placed a 60-26 report at Western Va, completing first in the Big Eastern four periods.

Rodriguez was 15-22 at The state of michigan, such as 6-18 in Big Ten have fun with, before being ignored.

During Rodriguez's period, the university accepted that it was responsible of four NCAA offenses. It was put on three years of probation, though Rodriguez and the university prevented main charges in piece because the NCAA decided that the instructor didn't crash to advertise an ambiance and submission in his application.

Rodriguez has been working as an analyst for CBS Sports this year, but had made it clear he wanted to get back into coaching as soon as possible.

Walmart Black Friday Ad 2011

Walmart Black Friday Ad 2011
Dark-colored Exclusive is huge for many shops, big and small. But for the past year or so, two large shops have fought to control the searching of production with the best offers and the most customers: Amazon and Walmart.

Both have the range and know-how to discuss the most affordable rates and stock the most popular things. For Dark-colored Exclusive 2011, however, people would do well to look beyond the two leaders for the best offers. Some shops are defeating Walmart's rates on big solution things. And Amazon is being cagey again this year, so it's extremely hard to know what will be available.

“Amazon is always a crazy card,” says Erina Top, creator of BFAds.net, a website that monitors Dark-colored Exclusive offers. “Since they are entirely online, they never have to submit a physical Dark-colored Exclusive ad. We never know their rates until day of, but they are always extra aggressive. They never have a common price-matching system, but they will always search competitors’ rates and put the same things or a similar piece up for a cheap, on a a selection of things.”

Both retailers retain their traditional strengths; “In Walmart’s case, it’s market cap and buying power,” says Mr. Brim. “They push more product, so they can cut their prices more often and take more losses than their competitors can.“

“Amazon is just an efficient model. They do one thing, online shopping, and they do it right, without the same constraints as their bricks-and-mortar competitors,” he says.

In many ways, the Amazon/Walmart duel is a microcosm of the larger question of whether online or in-store shopping makes more sense. That battle is growing ever more heated as the online retail sector continues its rapid growth. Online retail sales are expected to eclipse $50 billion for the first time in the fourth quarter of 2011, according to projections from Erik Johnson, an economist with IHS Global Insight.

There's every reason to take advantage of both online and traditional retail stores, depending on what you're looking for.

Because it has no limit in terms of inventory, Amazon can boast a bigger selection than Walmart, particularly in the entertainment and electronics categories. “Definitely with the books, videos, computer games, and all that stuff, Amazon is the leader,” says Max Levitte, founder and CEO of cheapism.com, an online deal site.

There’s also the luxury of pre-ordering hot-ticket items, rather than “going all the way out to a store and staring at an aisle of empty shelves,” as Mr. Levitte puts it. In most cases, Amazon wins the price game as well, in part because it isn’t required to collect sales tax in most states. It also has some of the best shipping deals around: many items qualify for free standard shipping, and a $79 per year Amazon Prime subscription gets you unlimited free two-day shipping.

But there's more to shopping than getting the right price. And Walmart, ironically, has somewhat of a little guy’s advantage when it comes to customer service, despite being 10 times bigger than its online competitor. (Walmart’s revenue was $421.8 billion last year; Amazon’s was $34.2 billion).

For one, Walmart’s 90-day full refund, no-questions-asked return policy is much better than that of Amazon, which recently got rid of free shipping on returned items. Now, the shipping price comes out of your store credit refund unless the return was a result of a company error.

For another, Walmart's inventory is easier to see. Because the inventory is so vast, Amazon’s indexing of merchandise can be complicated to navigate, according to Mr. Levitte. “It’s too large, and it’s difficult to tell if it’s being sold on Amazon or Amazon Marketplace, where the prices are higher.”

Finally, Walmart also offers free assembly on any item that might need it, including furniture, bicycles, grills, and complicated toys

The retail giant certainly has made more 2011 headlines than Amazon thus far, releasing its Black Friday ad earlier than ever and making certain Black-Friday priced items available as early as 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. “Just across the board, they have bigger budgets for everything, including ads, “ says Brim. “It’s not really possible for Amazon, or anyone else, to compete pound for pound.”

Despite that extra ad power, Brim points out, Walmart’s Black Friday deals themselves have been lackluster.

“This year both Best Buy and Target have edged out Walmart by a pretty decent margin,” he says. “What really drives people’s attention are the doorbuster ads on a store’s top five or six items, generally laptops and televisions.” On that front, Best Buy, and occasionally Target, are consistently beating Walmart.

Walmart boasts a holiday price guarantee: If you find a particular item offered at a better price by a local competitor, the store will give you the difference in the form of a gift card. The deal even works retroactively: If you bought a toaster from Walmart last week, and Target offers a cheaper price on the same toaster in December, you can bring the competitors’ ad to Walmart any day up until Christmas and claim a refund for the difference.

But the exceptions are huge. The price-matching guarantee doesn’t apply to Black Friday pricing, or to any prices offered by online vendors, like Amazon, Brim says. “As is, the Christmas price guarantee isn’t such a great package.”

UC Davis Pepper Spray
Law enforcement use of spice up apply on a number of demonstrators at School of Florida, Davis, on Exclusive started needs the resignation of the university’s chancellor and the begin of an exploration into the occurrence.

Eyewitnesses transferred their files later Exclusive. In a report on Wednesday that accepted the position of the eyewitnesses in increasing attention about the police’s habits, the university’s chancellor, Linda P.B. Katehi, said she was saddened by “the situations.”

“The use of spice up apply as found on the training video is relaxing to us all and increases many concerns about how best to deal with scenarios like this,” Ms. Katehi authored. Her report said that she was growing a endeavor power and asking university authorities to assessment established guidelines about encampments like the one that was constructed on the college this A week.

“While the university is trying to ensure the safety and health of all members of our community, we must ensure our strategies to gain compliance are fair and reasonable and do not lead to mistreatment,” Ms. Katehi wrote.

Asked about the demands by some faculty members for her resignation, Ms. Katehi said at a news conference on Saturday afternoon that she did not deem it appropriate to resign “at this point.”

This week also saw arrests of protesters in more than a dozen states and the eviction of protesters from the birthplace of the two-month-old Occupy Wall Street movement in New York City. Pepper spray was used, too, in Seattle on Tuesday night.

More than a dozen videos of the Davis incident have been uploaded to YouTube. The most-watched video has been viewed more than 200,000 times, according to the Web site. The videos have generated outcry online and were rebroadcast on television on Saturday. A reference to the pepper spray use was the No. 1 trending topic on Google in the United States on Saturday afternoon.

In one of the videos, the officer steps over a line of seated protesters, holds the pepper spray bottle in the air, then sprays it in the protesters’ faces in a coordinated fashion as eyewitnesses gasp and shout, “Shame on you.” Most of the protesters remain seated; police officers then forcibly remove and arrest them.

In a video taken from another direction, two officers can be seen dousing protesters with pepper spray at the same time. Though not visible in the videos, the operator of the Facebook page for the Occupy U.C. Davis organization claimed that one police officer “shoved a pepper spray gun down a student’s throat and pulled the trigger.” On Saturday afternoon, the Facebook page announced that protesters would be working with attorneys to pursue legal action.

In the video, after the arrests, protesters and bystanders are seen asking the police to leave. “You can go,” they chant. The police then appear to walk away from the quad, to applause from protesters.

A spokesperson for the U.C. Davis police did not respond to a request for comment Saturday. Annette Spicuzza, the U.C. Davis police chief, told The Sacramento Bee that the officers used pepper spray on Friday because the police were surrounded by students. “There was no way out of that circle,” she told the newspaper. “They were cutting the officers off from their support. It’s a very volatile situation.”

The videos, however, show officers freely moving about and show students behaving peacefully. The university reported no instances of violence by any protesters.

The listed phone number for Ms. Spicuzza indicated on Saturday that her voice mailbox was full.

The pepper spray incident took place at the end of a week of peaceful demonstrations on the U.C. Davis campus. According to Ms. Katehi’s statement, a group of protesters set up about 25 tents on the campus quad on Thursday in violation of university policy. Such encampments have been part of the strategy of Occupy-aligned protesters in cities and towns across the country.

The campers were told on Thursday and Friday that they had to remove the tents. Ms. Spicuzza said she decided “not to allow encampments on the quad during the weekend, when the general campus facilities are locked and the university staff is not widely available to provide support.”

Some of the protesters removed their tents, but others did not. When the police took the tents down, some of the remaining protesters locked arms and refused to move, leading to the pepper spray use.

Some protesters were hospitalized afterward, according to local reports. Ten were arrested. Interviewed at a hospital by a local newspaper, The Davis Enterprise, one of the protesters, Dominic Gutierrez, said that he had been sprayed while trying to shield others. “When you protect the things you believe in with your body, it changes you for good. It radicalizes you for good,” he said.

In the wake of what it called police violence, an association that represents some Davis faculty members called for Ms. Katehi’s resignation on Saturday. In a letter that was published online, Nathan Brown, an assistant professor in the English department and a member of the association’s board, said that Ms. Katehi was responsible for the violence and should resign immediately.

“The fact is: the administration of U.C. campuses systematically uses police brutality to terrorize students and faculty, to crush political dissent on our campuses, and to suppress free speech and peaceful assembly. Many people know this,” Mr. Brown wrote. “Many more people are learning it very quickly.”

Joe Paterno Lung Cancer

Joe Paterno Lung Cancer
Times after sacrificing the job he used for nearly a 50 % hundred years, former Penn Condition instructor Joe Paterno was identified with a curable kind of united states.

Scott Paterno, the Area of Reputation coach's son, said in a record Exclusive that his dad's physicians are beneficial the 84-year-old Paterno will develop a entire restoration.

Scott Paterno said in a word to ESPN.com's Ivan Maisel the five-year your survival pace for Joe Paterno's many forms of cancer is more than 70 %, "but obviously his age is a further complicating element."

The announcement came quickly after Penn Condition said the NCAA would look into the college's managing of a kid sex neglect scandal regarding former associate instructor Jerry Sandusky. Paterno was shot by the panel of trustees Nov. 9 for screwing up to do more about an neglect claim against Sandusky than record it to his superiors.

"Last weekend, my father was diagnosed with a treatable form of lung cancer during a follow-up visit for a bronchial illness," Scott Paterno said in the brief statement. The doctor's visit came the same weekend the school played its first game since the 1960s without Paterno leading the Nittany Lions. Penn State lost 17-14 to Nebraska.

"As everyone can appreciate, this is a deeply personal matter for my parents, and we simply ask that his privacy be respected as he proceeds with treatment," Scott Paterno said.

Earlier Friday, The Citizens Voice of Wilkes-Barre reported that Paterno had been seen Wednesday visiting the Mount Nittany Medical Center and was treated for an undisclosed ailment and released.

Sandusky is charged with sexually abusing eight boys over 15 years -- charges which he denies. Critics say Paterno should have done more to stop his former assistant, specifically when he was told about an assault in 2002. But the longtime coach is not a target of the ongoing investigation of Sandusky.

Paterno initially announced his retirement effective at the end of the season, saying that the scandal was "one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more." The trustees fired him anyway, about 12 hours later.

Longtime defensive coordinator Tom Bradley replaced Paterno on an interim basis. He broke the news about Paterno's cancer to the Nittany Lions after the team arrived in Columbus, Ohio, for Saturday's game against Ohio State.

"I told them sometimes words pale at a time like this. I felt they should hear it from us, exactly what it was, that we were told that it was a treatable lung cancer," Bradley said. "It's just one of those things. It's a tough time for the players."

Former Penn State quarterback Todd Blackledge, now an ESPN analyst, said Paterno never mentioned the illness when he visited his former coach Thursday in State College.

"In a week or so of many surprises this was another one," said Blackledge, who noted that Paterno was in good spirits when he saw him. A Penn State spokesman said that as far as he knew, Paterno never smoked.

To say health problems added to Paterno's troubles during a rough period doesn't begin to capture the last two weeks. The lurid Sandusky scandal has tarnished the reputation of a coach and a football program that once prided itself on the slogan "Success with Honor."

The Hall of Famer's 409 career victories are a Division I record. In all, Paterno guided five teams to unbeaten, untied seasons, and he won two national championships.

Sandusky was once expected to succeed Paterno but retired in 1999 not long after being told he wouldn't get the job.

Two university officials stepped down after they were charged with lying to a grand jury and failing to report the 2002 charge to police, an assault which allegedly took place in a shower in the football building.

A grand jury report said the attack was witnessed by Mike McQueary, a graduate assistant at the time. Now the receivers coach but on administrative leave, McQueary told the grand jury he went to his father first and then to Paterno, who in turn spoke with his boss but didn't go to the police.

When the state's top cop said Paterno failed to execute his moral responsibility by not contacting police, public outrage built and the trustees acted.

Besides the criminal case against Sandusky, the university announced last week it was conducting its own probe -- and that was before the NCAA said Friday that college sports' governing body would also start an inquiry.

NCAA president Mark Emmert said in the letter to Penn State president Rod Erickson the probe will look at "Penn State's exercise of institutional control over its intercollegiate athletics programs."

That once was never a question with Paterno, regarded as college football's model for running a clean program. He placed as much pride in graduating players as getting to bowl games, and consistently had Penn State among the top-rated academic programs in the country.

Paterno has donated millions back to the university, and his name graces a campus library -- not a football facility or athletic complex.

Prior to his firing, Paterno pressed on with coaching in spite of a number of recent ailments. He often walked into news conferences fighting back sniffles, and Paterno often passed it off as nothing more than an annoying cold.

He was said to be in good health this preseason -- getting back to his routine of walking around town -- before a receiver accidentally blindsided him during preseason drills in August, leaving him with an injured right shoulder and pelvis.

Known for his stubbornness and high pain threshold, Paterno walked away from the collision and stayed on his feet for the rest of the practice period before being encouraged to get checked out by a doctor. The injuries forced him to spend most of the season in the press box.

During the 2010 offseason, Paterno scaled back personal appearances because of an intestinal issue and an adverse reaction to antibiotics prescribed for dental work.

Paterno ran practices from a golf cart in 2008 and spent much of that season in the press box after injuring his hip while trying to show players how to perform an onside kick in practice. Two years earlier, he broke his leg in a sideline collision during Penn State's game at Wisconsin at Camp Randall Stadium.

"This is very unfortunate news and another sad note for our Penn State community," said school president Rod Erickson, who replaced Graham Spanier -- Spanier also was ousted the same night Paterno was fired.

"Our thoughts are with him and his family at this difficult time and we certainly pray for his speedy recovery," Erickson said.

Lung cancer kills 1.4 million people around the world each year. In the United States, 221,130 new cases and 156,940 deaths are expected this year. The disease is typically diagnosed in older people. About 2 out of 3 people diagnosed with lung cancer are over age 65.

"There's a significant number of people who are diagnosed in their 70s and 80s," said chief medical officer Dr. Otis Brawley of the American Cancer Society. He has no involvement in Paterno's treatment.

"Generally when I hear that a person has a treatable form of lung cancer, it means the person may very well benefit from surgery to remove a part of the lung," Brawley said.

While the surgery can be invasive, people who undergo the operation "can do well after that," he said.

The lights were dim Friday night at Paterno's modest ranch home next to a park near the end of a dead-end street. A few TV photographers waited across the street for any sign of the coach.

About a mile away, a steady stream of fans arrived in pairs to take pictures at the life-sized bronzed statue of Paterno outside Beaver Stadium. Jill Varady, 24, of York, said she found out about Paterno's illness after her aunt posted a comment on Facebook.

Despite the scandal, Varady said the school should "definitely let him finish the season, and then ... let him retire. We probably will never know everything that happened."

The illness didn't change the perception of how Paterno handled the Sandusky situation, said Tessa Drawbaugh, 26, of State College. "But as far as other than that, he's an icon," she said. "Everybody wants him to be well."

Not that this has any impact at all on a loss that transpired 30 in the past, but still type of unusual.

All that speculative yakking and saber-rattling about Steven Soderbergh’s big-screen The Man From U.N.C.L.E. has yielded this typically rewarding Hollywood payoff: Soderbergh is off the project, reportedly unhappy with the mid-level budget proposed by Warner Bros.

Angelina Jolie is attached to play the title role in Gertrude Bell, a planned biopic about the Englishwoman who was instrumental in the reshaping of the Middle East in the early 20th century. Ridley Scott would produce and may direct.

Dale Sveum First Dealing

Posted by Zotta Rendevouz

When Dale Sveum got his first dealing with job with the Altoona Challenge, the Double-A internet marketer of the Pittsburgh Angry, he was in his later 30s, just many years into pension from enjoying in the majors.

He used most of his time utilizing the players, one former person have been, but in his third period, he stored a left-handed pitcher’s job.

“ 'Sveumer' offered me to be able to develop it to the majors,” Bob Grabow said in a cellphone discussion Friday. “I was a beginning in Double-A, just treading water, when he came to deal with. He said I’d have a better potential for getting to the big leagues as a crusher. I was in the big leagues at the end of that period, and I’ve been in the big leagues ever since. If he never would have transferred me to the bullpen, who knows where I’d be.”

That was in 2003. Grabow begun 10 activities in Sveum’s first period as Challenge supervisor in 2001, and 27 in 2002, when he went 8-13 with a 5.47 ERA. He created the move to crusher in 2003, and frequency for the Angry at the end of period. He’s generated almost $13 thousand since as a crusher.

Grabow, of course, is the only person, so far, to toss for Lou Piniella, Robert Quade and Sveum. He believes it’s your best option and that Sveum’s individuality should fit with what the Canines need after a 71-91 period.

“You don’t need to be a cheerleader or a rah-rah guy,” he said. “But you have to show some type of emotion.”

As for Sveum’s predecessors, Grabow liked Piniella and has mixed feelings on Quade.

“With Lou, he communicated with the players, which sometimes wasn’t always good,” Grabow said. “But if you played well, he came up and told you so. He patted you on the back and said keep up the good work. If you had a rough patch, he stuck with you. He managed with his gut.

“Quade managed by the book,” he said. “Some players didn’t always agree with it. Quade didn’t communicate with the players a lot and players respond to that.”

Quade’s managing wasn’t why the Cubs dug themselves in a big hole, Grabow said. That was the fault of early injuries to the pitching staff and the slow start for the hitters. But it was clear that no one in the clubhouse was fighting for Quade to stay after so many guys vouched for him in 2010.

Conversely, Grabow believes Sveum will be the kind of manager who truly gets to know his players, and earns their respect. A personal touch means more than outsiders think.

“The biggest thing you’ve got to know is how to manage personalities,” Grabow said. “There are so many different personalities you need to interact with. In the big leagues, managers know how to manage games.

"That’s why they’re qualified for the job. But managing players and how players respond to you is a big deal."

For example: Telling a starting pitcher he has to go to the bullpen can be a tricky thing, but Grabow remembers Sveum handling it perfectly.

“When he told me to go the bullpen, he said, ‘Don’t look it as a demotion,’ ” Grabow said. “That’s a quality right there. He said, ‘Don’t hang your head on this. You’ll get to big leagues quicker.’ ”

Grabow is a free agent and unlikely to return to the Cubs. He said he “wishes things would’ve been better in Chicago” after Jim Hendry traded for him during the 2009 season.

“I never seemed to get on track right,” he said.

As for the Cubs, he said he’s familiar with the culture change philosophy. He did pitch for Pittsburgh, after all.

“When I was with Pittsburgh we always talked about a change of culture,” he said. “The guys on the team have the right mentality. Sometimes you have some distractions that bring the team down. If some of those distractions are not there, they might play a little better.”

SOPA : Internet Censorship

SOPA : Internet Censorship
the Quit Web Piracy Act — has been introduced in the Home of Staff as a way to secure film companies, report brands and others whose audio and shows are taken and ripped online. There was a experiencing on it now. Its Us senate version is known as the Protect IP Act.

But others are phoning them issue costs that would guide to Web censorship.

Eric Schmidt, control chairman of Google, said the costs would exaggerate it — supplying trademark cases and administration the energy to cut off sites unreasonably. They could be turn down, and look for applications such as Google, Ask and Google could be ceased from backlinks to them.

“The alternatives are draconian,” Schmidt said Wednesday at the MIT Sloan University of Administration. “There’s a costs that would need ISPs [Internet support providers] to eliminate URLs from the Web, which is also known as censorship last time I tested.”

That said, Schmidt naturally that Artist companies have a actual issue — people are pirating their films and harmful their business. The Movement Graphic Organization of The united states has placed ads on YouTube to ask its situation.

SOPA — the Stop Internet Piracy Act — has been presented in the House of Representatives as a way to protect movie studios, record labels and others whose music and films are taken and copied online. There was a hearing on it today. Its Senate counterpart is called the Protect IP Act.

But others are calling them flawed bills that would lead to Internet censorship.

Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of Google, said the bills would overdo it — giving copyright holders and government the power to cut off websites unreasonably. They could be shut down, and search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo could be stopped from linking to them.

“The solutions are draconian,” Schmidt said Tuesday at the MIT Sloan School of Management. “There’s a bill that would require ISPs [Internet service providers] to remove URLs from the Web, which is also known as censorship last time I checked.”

That said, Schmidt granted that Hollywood studios have a real problem — people are pirating their movies and threatening their business. The Motion Picture Association of America has posted promos on YouTube to plead its case.

Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas), who chairs the House Judiciary Committee and sponsored SOPA, has said his bill will help “stop the flow of revenue to rogue websites and ensures that the profits from American innovations go to American innovators.”

Now Tumblr, the microblogging website, has joined the opposition to the bills with a page called “Protect the Net.”

“As written, they would betray more than a decade of US policy and advocacy of Internet freedom,” said a statement on Tumblr, “by establishing a censorship system using the same domain blacklisting technologies pioneered by China and Iran.”
