Verizon Galaxy Tab set to arrive on Nov. 11, $599

Verizon Wireless and Samsung have jointly announced the first official date for a Samsung Galaxy Tab tied to a U.S. carrier. On Wednesday, the two companies said that the Galaxy Tab wil come to Verizon on Nov. 11th, for $599, without a contract.

The Galaxy Tab will come to all four major U.S. carriers, has a 7" 1024 x 600 screen, is 0.45" thick, 4.7" wide, and 7.4" long. The device will ship with Android 2.2 (Froyo), a Cortex A8 Hummingbird 1GHz CPU, front- (1.3MP) and rear-facing (3.0MP) cameras, and much more more.

So far, leaked pricing for T-Mobile and Sprint has indicated similar pricing for unsubsidized models, but also subsidized pricing of $399 with a two-year contract. Those are, of course, unofficial numbers.

Verizon Wireless also said that the Galaxy Tab would have a 1GB data plan for $20. However, the word "beginning" was inserted into the press release. That would tend to jive with earlier leaked information on Verizon's upcoming data tiers that said that tablets would have $20, $35, $50 and $80 plans with 1GB, 3GB, 5GB, and 10GB data caps, respectively.

We would assume that Verizon did not reveal the other tiers to avoid speaking about just that, the upcoming tiers. Those tiers are supposed to be introduced on Oct. 28th.

The pricing is interesting, because Verizon just sales of the iPad (with MiFi, if you want 3G). That means the lowest model iPad will be selling at $629, right next to the Galaxy Tab, at $599. It could be a tough sell.

Remember also that Steve Jobs in his anti-Android tirade on Monday's Apple earnings call, said that the Galaxy Tab (and any other 7" tablets) would be DOA. That is, of course, arguable.
