Ufc 126 Fight Card : Forrest Griffin Takes The Win

Ufc 126 Fight Card, everyone seems to be talking about this as some kind of 'fun fight' as if these guys aren't really going to be going after it tonight. Ask Chuck Liddell how fun fighting Rich Franklin is. Those thoughts should have been stamped out after yesterday's staredown at the weigh-ins, but rest assured, neither of these guys are looking to cut their opponent any slack. A win here isn't going to propel either fighter into title contention, but it certainly wouldn't hurt.

Forrest Griffin takes the win after a prolonged absence from the Octagon winning by unanimous decision.

As the horn sounded lip readers could easily see that Griffin was not happy about this going to the cards, but he did not need to worry as he took it with a unanimous decision win with all three judges scoring it 29-28 in his favor.

While this fight did not live up to the pre fight hype, it was in no way a boring bout.

A brief play by play:

Griffin caught a Franklin kick attempt and took Franklin to the ground as the crowd chanted Griffin’s name.

Griffin then leaned that big body on Franklin making him carry his weight, but Franklin really controlled the wrists of Griffin, avoiding most of the strike attempts from Griffin.

Griffin controlled the first round, but Franklin did a fantastic job controlling hands and avoiding damage.

A Griffin headkick leads to Griffin pulling Franklin to the ground. Griffin then takes the back of Franklin and lands some big shots while Franklin works to stand.

Griffin tagged Franklin with a left hook and he was briefly rocked but recovered well only to get nailed by a big body kick shortly after.

Griffin is dominating this fight and Franklin seems to know it as he shrugs his shoulders as he walks to his corner.

Franklin delivered a strong body kick early in the third round, serving notice he was not going to go easy into the Vegas night.

Griffin got the takedown with a little minute left and Franklin reversed and after some scrambling the fighters ended up on their feet with 30 seconds left.
