With the new results, the coroners revised Wood's cause of loss of life to "drowning and other undetermined factors," with the way of loss of life being modified to "undetermined." The cause of loss of life had initially been listed as "accident."
The review specific the discoloration on Natalie Wood hands and feet and mentioned a four-inch bruise on her right hand, several small one-inch clean contusions on her remaining higher leg, as well as clean contusions and scrapes to the supports of her feet. Aside from the discoloration, Wooden also had trivial cuts on her remaining temple, remaining brow and the remaining higher face area.
"The location of the contusions, the multiplicity of the contusions, lack of head stress, or facial discoloration support discoloration having happened prior to access in the water," Primary Healthcare Examiner Dr. Lakshmanan Sathyavagiswaran had written in the July review. "Since there are un answered questions and restricted additional proof available for assessment, it is opined by this Healthcare Examiner that the way of loss of life should be remaining as undetermined."
Wood passed away on Nov. 29, 1981 following a party on a boat with her spouse acting professional John Wagner and "Brainstorm" co-star Captain christopher Walken. Her system was found sailing face down off the shore of California's Santa Catalina Isle. It's not clear how she joined the water.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reopened the investigation into Wood's death in fall 2011.
Authorities have said Wagner is not considered a suspect in the case.
Wood was nominated for three Academy Awards and was best known for her roles in "Miracle on 34th Street," "West Side Story," and "Rebel Without a Cause." She was 43 years old when she died.
