Poughkeepsie shooting (CNN) - A veteran police officer died of his injuries Friday after a shootout in Poughkeepsie, New York, according to the Poughkeepsie Police Department. The name of the deceased employee, a veteran of 18 years, the department has not been released pending notification of relatives.

Another police had been treated for small injuries, Vasser Medical Center in Poughkeepsie Police Chief Ronald Knapp said during a press conference Friday afternoon. "Today is the worst day of our city has seen perhaps in our history," said Mayor Mike Tkazyik.
